Judging, advising and brand work

Outside the products, I take on three kinds of work: judging hackathons and pitch competitions, advising founders through the first year of a company, and working with brands on content and search authority. Each section says what I look for, what you get, and how to reach me.

01 · Judging

Judging

I score the way I would want my own work scored: does it run, who is it for, and what did the team learn building it. Every team I score gets written notes, not only the winners.

Hackathons

Weekend and week-long builds, in person or remote.

What I look for

  • A working demo over a polished deck
  • How the team scoped the time they had, and what they cut
  • Where AI sits in the product, and what checks its output
Good fit
AI agents, fintech, developer tools, voice, civic tech
Why me
I ship on the same clock: Currently went from idea to a live product in three weeks during the Commit Fellowship.
How Currently shipped

Startup pitch competitions

University venture competitions, accelerator demo days, pre-seed and seed pitches.

What I look for

  • A problem a named customer would describe in the same words
  • Evidence someone pays, or will: interviews, pilots, letters of intent
  • Why this team, and why the timing works now
Good fit
Pre-seed and seed, B2B software, fintech, AI products
Why me
As a venture analyst I screened more than 150 early-stage startups and wrote the memos, so I read a pitch the way a first check reads it.
Investment memos I have written

Student STEM and research showcases

Science and engineering fairs, undergraduate research days, student AI and data challenges.

What I look for

  • A clear question and an honest test of it
  • Whether the student can explain what the result does not show
  • A sensible next experiment
Good fit
Computer science, data science, applied AI, engineering
Why me
I trained in software engineering and data science, and I write pre-registered working papers, so method matters to me more than polish.
My working papers
The score sheet I useFive lines, same for every team
  1. 1ProblemReal, specific and owned by someone who would notice if it went away.
  2. 2ProofA demo, data or customer evidence I can check in the room.
  3. 3BuildSound choices for the time available, and honest about the shortcuts.
  4. 4JudgmentWhat the team chose not to do, and why.
  5. 5Next stepA plan for the next two weeks that someone could start Monday.

02 · Advising

Advising on 0 to 1 venture building

Most early companies stall at one stage, not all six. I work on the stage you are stuck in, using the same methods I use on my own products, and you leave each stage with something concrete.

  1. 01

    Problem and customer

What we work onCustomer discovery interviews, a sharp ideal customer profile, and a problem statement customers repeat back to you.

What you leave withInterview notes, a one-line ICP and the first 20 accounts to call.

    Riseapp.ai pivot after 30+ interviews
  2. 02

    Wedge and offer

What we work onPick the narrowest version someone will pay for, set a price to test, and write the offer in the customer's words.

What you leave withA priced offer and a page that explains it in one screen.

  3. 03

    First build

What we work onScope the first version, choose a stack the team can maintain, and put guardrails on any AI before users see it.

What you leave withA working product in users' hands within weeks, with tests on the parts that touch money or data.

    Currently, live in three weeks
  4. 04

    First revenue

What we work onPick one or two channels the team can run, build a target list from buying signals, and set up outreach that a person reviews.

What you leave withDesign partners or first paying users, and a channel worth doubling.

The GTM system that halved manual sales-ops time
  5. 05

    Operating rhythm

What we work onA small metric tree, a weekly review, one decision log, and automation for any task done three times.

What you leave withA dashboard the founders open every Monday and a meeting that ends in decisions.

    Dashboards built for leadership teams
  6. 06

    Investor readiness

What we work onRead the company the way an analyst does: market, wedge, moat, the numbers that matter at this stage, and what would change an investor's mind.

What you leave withAn investment memo written about your company, and a list of the gaps to close before you raise.

    How I write a memo
Formats

First-time and university founders, operators spinning a product out of a services business, and studios running several builds at once.

Office hours
One call on one problem. Good for a pricing question, a pitch review or a stack decision.
Stage sprint
Four to six weeks on a single stage above, with a weekly working session and written follow-ups.
Program mentor
Through SCORE, Founder Institute and EforAll, or an accelerator or university program that brings me in.
Advisory role
Ongoing, for teams past their first build who want a builder in the room for product and GTM calls.

03 · Brand

Brand collaborations

I work with companies whose products I use or whose market I write about. That means content people come back to, and pages that search and AI answer engines can cite. Every partnership is disclosed.

01

Content marketing

  • Co-written research reports and market maps
  • Product teardowns and build logs that show the tool in real use
  • Founder letters, essays and newsletter features
Essays and market maps
02

Brand and domain authority

  • Entity structure and structured data, so engines know who you are
  • Source-backed pages that AI answer engines can cite
  • Citation tracking across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews

03

Workshops, talks and reviews

  • Hands-on workshops on AI agents, voice AI and GTM automation
  • Podcast and panel conversations on building 0 to 1
  • Honest reviews of developer and AI tools I have shipped with
The frameworks I teach from
Ground rules
  • Every paid or gifted partnership is labeled as one.
  • I only review tools I have used in a real build.
  • No invented numbers, testimonials or results in anything I publish.
